Brunswick Club Commission, G*RLS CAMERA CLUB
G*RLS Camera Club is a space created for female identifying and non-binary people to come together to discuss their practice. A space to collectively empower, inspire and support local analogue Photographers in Bristol. They were founded in Bristol in 2021 after a huge lack of female and non binary talent being offered paid work in the industry. G*RLS Camera Club’s aim is to nurture passion and provide the tools, opportunities and confidence to enable female and non-binary photographers to safely enter a male dominated industry. They celebrate women and the under represented both behind and in front of the lens.
G*RLS Camera Club were selected for a commission hosted by The Brunswick Club through an open call process. With the support of the collective, they realised a development programme to equip their members with the tools to facilitate workshops for the wider community. Through a six month programme of workshops, guest speakers, crits, events, community engagement and experimental darkroom sessions, they worked with underrepresented groups to encourage all those with an interest in photography to experiment and play with the medium. This was followed by a celebratory exhibition at KIT FORM in July 2024.
